Exclusive: Keaton Wagler reveals craziest thing NBA team asked during pre-draft process

The LA Clippers made their splash on Draft night, selecting guard Keaton Wagler out of Illinois with the fifth overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. The 19-year old point guard stayed in Los Angeles for three days during the pre-draft process as he underwent a series of workouts with the franchise.

The pre-draft process can be an interesting one, as teams try to learn who players really are and what they truly value most in their young lives. We’ve seen some wild questions be asked by teams, but this incident involving Wagler received may take the cake.

Keaton Wagler spoke exclusively with ClutchPoints on Tuesday night after he was selected by the Clippers in the NBA Draft, where he broke down his workouts with the franchise and why he wanted to be drafted by them. Later in the interview, however, Wagler revealed what happened at one of his pre-draft interviews with a team.

“There was 1 team that put up pictures of me and my family, and a couple of them just weren’t even my family,” Wagler revealed to ClutchPoints during the interview. “I was like, ‘that’s weird.’ They asked me like, ‘who are these people?’ and I was like, ‘I actually don’t know who those people are.'”

At six-foot-six and just 19 years of age, Wagler had a strong season as Illinois, averaging 17.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.2 rebound per game while shooting 44.5 percent from the field and 39.7 percent from three. He sees himself as both a point guard and a combo guard who will be able to fit in perfectly alongside Darius Garland and Kawhi Leonard.

“I’d probably say I’m a point guard and combo guard,” Keaton Wagler added. “I can play both positions, really. I think that’s why I’m going to fit in really well with the Clippers. Being able to play alongside Garland will be great. For me to be off the ball and ready to shoot, I feel like I’m a really good shooter. And then just when he’s off the ball, having the ball in my hands, being ready to make plays for myself and others.

“My versatility is a big strength. Like I said, being able to play all over the floor, I know that they’re going to have the ball in their hands a lot and I’m fine with that. I’m going to do whatever it takes to win games and whether that’s me having the ball or not, I’m ready to get my role and know what to do.”
