Exclusive: AEW’s Thekla ends Lionel Messi-Cristiano Ronaldo GOAT debate amid World Cup

The FIFA World Cup fever is currently on. Taking place in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, this year’s World Cup games have produced some of the most entertaining and goal-filled matches of all-time. With 2022 World Cup-winning captain Lionel Messi starting the campaign on a high note and a hat-trick, fans saw him follow it up with an equally entertaining display against Austria.

However, while Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo did not have a satisfying first match against DR Congo, his captaincy-led team defeated Uzbekistan 5-0 in the second match of the campaign. In a recent exclusive with AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla, the Austrian wrestler was asked about her thoughts on Messi and Argentina destroying Austria.

Summing up her answer in one phrase, Thekla shared her reaction to the 2-0 Austria vs. Argentina match. “Dumb b***hes,” Thekla said while bursting out in laughter. “No, ‌obviously, ‌[Lionel] Messi is a‌ phenomenal‌ football player. But, yeah, it’s not over yet. It’s not over until it’s over, so go, Austria.”

Hailing from Europe and a soccer nation, Thekla was also asked to share her verdict on the GOAT debate between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Arguably one of the most heated debates in soccer, Thekla shared her answer in one word and refused to share any further explanation. “Messi.”

While Portugal and Argentina still have one group game left in the tournament, the 33-year-old Thekla is now scheduled to face and defend her AEW Women’s World Championship against Starlight Kid at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on Jun. 28, 2026.
