Ex-Phillies star Nick Castellanos drops brutally honest reflection on playing in Philadelphia

Veteran Nick Castellanos enjoyed some big seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies. However, Castellanos is now playing with the San Diego Padres. Ahead of the Padres and Phillies game on Tuesday night, Castellanos was asked about the challenges he faced while playing in Philadelphia, via OnPattison.

“I mean, media always wants controversy, right, because it makes them relevant,” Castellanos said. “And there’s clicks. They will take something small that probably shouldn’t be talked about and then they will blow it up because they want a story. It becomes something and it can just distract from the purity of the game.

“So, that can be challenging.”

Castellanos is often brutally honest while speaking to reporters. That certainly did not change on Tuesday. With the Phillies hosting the Padres on Tuesday night in Philadelphia, Castellanos made an honest admission before the game. The Philadelphia media is used to Castellanos’ honest answers, while Castellanos is used to the difficult questions from the big market reporters.

The 34-year-old has struggled in San Diego with the Padres so far. He is currently hitting .191/.221/.339 across 39 games played. Castellanos has four home runs as well.

Despite his overall struggles at the plate, he is hoping to help the Padres get the job done on the road against his former ball club on Tuesday night. It should be a competitive ball game between the National League ball clubs. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST in Philadelphia as the Padres look to earn a big victory on the road.
