Every NFL general manager fired in 2026

The 2025 NFL regular season is not even over, as the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens are currently playing in the season finale with the AFC North on the line.

But some jobs are already opening up around the league as Black Monday looms.

The Atlanta Falcons went first, parting ways with head coach Raheem Morris after two seasons in charge. But head coaches are not the only firings to watch over the next few days, as some general manager positions are bound to become available.

Terry Fontenot, Atlanta Falcons

Raheem Morris was not the only member of the Falcons organization to lose their job on Sunday night.

Atlanta also fired general manager Terry Fontenot. Fontenot took over as the team’s general manager in January of 2021, and one could make the argument that Fontenot hit on each of his first three first-round picks for Atlanta. In 2021 he added talented tight end Kyle Pitts out of Florida, one of the most intriguing players in that draft class. The following year Fontenot picked wide receiver Drake London in the first round, and then in 2023 Fontenot picked running back Bijan Robinson out of Texas.

Then things took a turn for the start of the 2024 draft. After signing Kirk Cousins in free agency to a massive contract — and running afoul of the league’s anti-tampering rules in the process — Fontenot drafted quarterback Michael Penix in the first round of the 2024 draft.

Then at the start of the 2025 NFL Draft, Fontenot doubled up on pass rushers, first with Jalon Walker and then with James Pearce in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams.

As a result of that trade with the Rams, the next general manager not only has to figure out the quarterback position, but will have to do so without a first round pick.

Oh, and right now the Falcons are more than $4 million over the cap for next season.

Owner Arthur Blank announced on Monday that the team will be adding a President of Football from outside the organization, who will have “[f]inal decision-making authority.”

Former quarterback Matt Ryan has been linked with that role.
