Evan Mobley making strong Giannis Antetokounmpo trade case for Cavs
The Cleveland Cavaliers have found themselves down 2-0 in their series against the Detroit Pistons, and the hope for them is that they can regain control when they get back home. It has not been the best showing for the Cavs in the first two games, and some of the players just need to perform better.
Everyone has, of course, pointed the finger at James Harden and how he’s barely shooting the ball while also turning it over, but Evan Mobley is also someone who deserves some blame.
Mobley finished Game 2 with just eight points and one rebound, and it’s obvious that’s not going to be enough to help the Cavs. In Game 1, he finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.
If Mobley continues to play like this and the Cavs end up losing the series, there could be some changes to the roster in the offseason that involve him. The first name that comes to mind is Giannis Antetokounmpo, and rival executives seem to already know what it would take for the Cavs to poach him away from the Milwaukee Bucks.
“It would take Evan Mobley and all of Cleveland’s available draft capital to get it done,” Jake Fischer wrote. “It’s a move that no shortage of rival executives I’ve discussed it with say they would make.”
There were rumors during the trade deadline that the Cavs were looking to acquire Antetokounmpo, and they knew that it was going to take moving Mobley in order to get a deal done. In the event that the Cavs flame out quickly in the second round, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Cavs revisited those talks.
At the same time, Mobley needs to play better now, and he’s the x-factor for the Cavs if they want to make a deep playoff run. Right now, they’re not playing their best basketball, and though it starts with Harden being better, Mobley has to step up as well.
