Estevao ‘crying at half-time’ as Liam Rosenior offers ‘devastated’ injury update

Estevao’s hamstring injury against Manchester United left him in tears in the Chelsea dressing room at Stamford Bridge.

The Brazilian wonderkid started the Blues’ huge clash with the Red Devils as they chase down Champions League qualification.

Three defeats in a row, to Newcastle, Everton, and Man City, had left manager Liam Rosenior embattled in west London.

However, injuries and a sucker-punch defeat have worsened that position.

Before Matheus Cunha‘s goal in the 1-0 win for Manchester United, Estevao pulled up and looked in serious discomfort.

In the 16th minute he was put through on goal but a tame shot told the tale of his woe.

He then hobbled off with the help of physios and Rosenior has admitted things don’t look good for the 18-year-old.

“He (Estevao) was devastated, he was crying at half-time. I am really devastated for him,” he explained.

“It looks like his hamstring and came at a moment where he was running through on their goal one vs one.

“He pulled his hamstring in that moment. I hope Estevao comes back sooner rather than later.”

Not only is it a blow for the player, who looks like a great signing for the former Premier League champions, in the immediate future, it could also be a huge blow for his World Cup dream.

Even with his tender age, the teen talent already has 11 caps and five goals, and that’s without playing in the March friendlies with France and Croatia.

Estevao was not the only worry for Rosenior either.

Late on, Enzo Fernandez, who was returning after a club-given suspension for hinting he wishes to leave the club, suffered a calf issue.

Rosenior added: “I just saw him in the dressing room. I think it was his calf. I’m hoping it’s cramp. He’s getting work on it right now because we want him obviously fit for Tuesday.

“I think the fact that he ran himself into the ground for the club tonight…I expect nothing different from a man of his stature and his quality.”

However, despite the praise, vice-captain Fernandez was not handed the captain’s armband on his comeback.

That honour went to Moises Caicedo.

Rosenior added: “We have a leadership group. Wearing the armband is an honour for this club.

“He played like a captain. I’m very happy with his performance and him.”
