ESPN’s Matt Miller announces next ‘big’ surgery after arm amputation

After revealing that he had his arm amputated after a car crash, ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller needs another surgery to figure out his next steps.

Miller took to X, formerly Twitter, to reveal that he is heading into a “big” surgery. The procedure will determine whether or not his “shoulder can be reconstructed in order to [support] a prosthetic arm.” He asked for fans’ “thoughts and prayers.”

“Today’s surgery is a big one,” he said. “To find out if my shoulder can be reconstructed in order to [support] a prosthetic arm. Your continued thoughts and prayers are so appreciated.

The news of his latest surgery comes after Miller revealed that he had his arm amputated. He was involved in a serious car crash a week earlier while driving on Mo-96 in Jasper County. Miller was driving his 2023 Ford Bronco when he crossed the center line, hitting a semi tractor-trailer. Luckily, the driver of the tractor-trailer was okay.

“Last week, I was involved in a serious car accident in Missouri and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital,” Miller wrote on social media. “I’m deeply grateful for the exceptional care I have received, from the first responders to the doctors, nurses and medical staff. I’m incredibly fortunate to be writing this. As a result of the accident, I sustained significant injuries, including multiple fractures and broken ribs. I also underwent a life-saving amputation of my left arm.”

He claimed he had a “long road” to recovery. However, he remained optimistic that he would be back at work in no time to cover the NFL Draft in 2027.

Miller has been with ESPN since 2021, making his on-air debut a couple of years later in 2023. Before that, he served as Bleacher Report’s lead NFL Draft writer for over a decade.
