England were first-ever ‘has anyone seen’ victims after shock defeat to Norway in 1981
Haaaaaaaaaas anyone seen the famous football moment that Jason Cundy’s iconic talkSPORT segment is based on?
Well, you may be seeing it shared around this weekend as England take on Norway in the World Cup quarter-finals.

That’s because Cundy took inspiration for his opening feature on The Sports Bar from a clash between the two nations in 1981.
Anyone who listens to talkSPORT’s Sports Bar every evening from 10pm will know exactly how the show usually begins.
Typically, after the day’s football, Cundy will take the mick out of a losing team, most notably rivals of his beloved Chelsea or England.
For example, he often went viral for his ‘Has Anyone Seen’ segments towards Tottenham and co-host Jamie O’Hara during their nightmare last campaign that saw them almost get relegated, which included the birth of the Ange Postecoglou mask.
And now during the World Cup, Cundy has also launched into his segment, laughing at Scotland and Mexico’s eliminations.
After each segment, the clips are usually shared around on social media, with it becoming a phenomenon on talkSPORT.
As The Sports Bar begins, O’Hara welcomes listeners before a joyous Cundy then launches into a hilarious ‘Has Anyone Seen’.
He typically says: “Has anyone seen [insert team/person], can you hear me?! Your boys took one hell of a beating!”
Cundy starts off with the team, nation or person, and then goes on to name random things connected to them.
But where did this all start? talkSPORT.com takes a look at the famous moment that Cundy has now made his own…

‘Maggie Thatcher, can you hear me?!’
The ‘Has Anyone Seen’ segment was inspired by the words of Norwegian commentator Bjørge Lillelien in 1981.
Lillelien famously launched into a targeted post-match celebratory rant aimed at England after Norway beat them 2-1, despite only having five professionals in their team.
The star-studded Three Lions, whose line-up included Kevin Keegan, Bryan Robson and Glen Hoddle, lost in the World Cup qualifier 45 years ago, with the result creating an iconic moment.
It is widely considered one of the best bits of commentary ever and Cundy continues to emulate it regularly on talkSPORT.
After full-time in the game, commentator Lillelien began: “We have beaten England! England, the birthplace of giants!“
He then started listing famous English names, saying: “Lord Nelson! Lord Beaverbrook! Sir Winston Churchill! Sir Anthony Eden! Clement Attlee! Henry Cooper! Lady Diana!”

“Maggie Thatcher, can you hear me?!” he concluded.
“Maggie Thatcher, your boys took a hell of a beating, your boys took a hell of a beating!”
The moment has gone down in history, but Lillelien admitted that he never planned to say those lines; it was all off the cuff.
He later explained: “These things have to be spontaneous.
“I can assure you if these things were written down, then you can be sure it would be used in the wrong place.”
Now, Cundy writes his Has Anyone Seen segments down with the help of his producers – so Lillelien may not be too pleased – but he’s carrying on the legacy of the clip, with the incredible rant living on to this day on talkSPORT.
Chance for redemption
In fact, Cundy may be able to direct his own ‘Has Anyone Seen’ rant back towards Norway, almost half a century later.
England have a shot at redemption for the commentary as they meet the Norwegians at the World Cup this Saturday night.
If the Three Lions win, they’ll not only progress through to the semi-finals of the tournament, but Cundy will hit back.
45 years on from Lillelien’s words, he could be the next victim.
So, make sure to listen in to talkSPORT’s live commentary of England vs Norway, as well as the following Sports Bar show.
