Eagles trade for Jonathan Greenard, signs $100 million extension
The Philadelphia Eagles made a splash trade during Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft. While other teams are focusing on acquiring rookies, Philly goes out of its way to acquire a star linebacker in Jonathan Greenard with a deal with the Minnesota Vikings. Greenard is also signing a new contract extension now that he’s in Philadelphia.
Reports indicate that Greenard, who is 28 years old, is signing a four-year, $100 million contract extension with $50 million guaranteed now that he is with the Eagles, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. It’s a move that gives Philadelphia a new star edge rusher for the defense.
“Jonathan Greenard is signing a 4-year, $100M extension ($50M guaranteed) with the Eagles, per source,” reported Schultz.
The Eagles are sending two third-round picks (one this year and one for 2027) along with a 2026 seventh-round pick to the Vikings in exchange for Greenard and a 2026 seventh-round pick, per Schultz. Minnesota gets some decent draft capital out of the deal.
“BREAKING: The Vikings are trading Pro Bowl pass-rusher Jonathan Greenard to the Eagles in exchange for 2 3rd-round picks (one this year and one in 2027), per sources,” said Schultz.
This story is currently developing, and more information will be published soon.
