Eagles’ Jordan Mailata weighs in on AJ Brown trade rumors

With the opening waves of free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft officially in the rearview mirror, the next big date on the Philadelphia Eagles’ calendar isn’t Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season, the Week 1 of the preseason, or even the start of training camp, but instead June 1, when teams can officially trade or cut a player and split their dead money over two years instead of one.

On that glorious Monday, the Eagles will officially be able to trade AJ Brown, who has had a foot out of the door now for months as Philadelphia looks to retool its offense around players like DeVonta Smith, Makai Lemon, and Eli Stowers.

Discussing his time with Brown in an ambush-style appearance on WIP, Jordan Mailata told Spike Ekins that he enjoyed his time together with Brown, even if their time as teammates appears to be coming to an end.

“Hey, I don’t care what anybody says in the media, man. AJ is a h*ll of a teammate. Obviously, I’m going to miss him. He’s a great person, h*ll of a teammate. And, you know, that stuff is out of our control, man,” Mailata said.

“And so right now, with all that noise going on, we’re just focused on, again, we’re coming in, we got to lift, we got to run. And that’s about it. You know, right now is just locking in on the goal right now is whoever’s throwing up at OTAs, and that’s what we’re doing. Everything else is all noise, man, all white noise that we can’t, we have no control over, man. But he’s a h*ll of a teammate, brother.”

Initially landing in Philadelphia in 2022, the fifth year of Mailata’s run in the City of Brotherly Love, Brown more than lived up to expectations after being acquired for a first and third round pick during that year’s draft, catching 339 of the 521 balls thrown his way for 5,034 yards and 32 touchdowns over his four regular seasons plus 28 more receptions or 335 yards and a touchdown in the playoffs. While the end of his run hasn’t exactly produced a clean break, Brown’s run in Philadelphia has to go down as a success.
