Dylan Larkin drops truth bomb after Red Wings stay alive in playoff race

The Detroit Red Wings defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 6-3 to keep their playoff hopes alive. The last few days have seen the Red Wings’ playoff hopes take a dip, but they stayed strong on Thursday. Larkin had a hat trick in this victory, finishing with three goals and one assist. Meanwhile, Alex DeBrincat tallied his 40th goal of the season, putting himself into the Red Wings’ history books. Goalie John Gibson was solid with 13 saves in 15 chances before exiting the game with neck stiffness. Cam Talbot took over and stopped 12 of 13 shots.

The win kept the Wings three points behind the Ottawa Senators for the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. With three games left to play, the Red Wings’ margin for error is almost none. Beating the Flyers gave them a chance, but their only hope for a playoff spot lies with one of the two wild-card spots, since the Tampa Bay Lightning currently holds the third spot with 102 points.

The Red Wings will conclude the regular season with their final home game against the New Jersey Devils. Then, they head south to battle the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers. They will also keep an eye on the Ottawa Senators, who will end the season with back-to-back road games against the New York Islanders and Devils. Then, the Sens end the regular season at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Wings likely must win all three remaining games while hoping the Sens get only two points in the final three. A tie would give the Sens a playoff spot since they have more regulation wins.
