Dylan Harper’s brother gets real on dropping Knicks fandom
The San Antonio Spurs gained a fan before the 2026 NBA Finals began. But came at the expense of dropping out of the New York Knicks fanbase for the benefit of Spurs rookie Dylan Harper.
Ron Harper Jr. of the Boston Celtics told SportsCenter he needed to let go of his NYK fandom. All to support his bro on pursuing a championship ring.
Although he released his fandom way before tipoff of Game 1.
“For me it stopped when I went through the draft process,” Ron Harper Jr. said. “I tried to be as unbiased as possible when it came to the Knicks. And I had to let a part of my childhood go.”

Harper also needed to end his past enmity for the Celtics too the moment he played for the franchise. Now he’s big on supporting Dylan Harper’s trek to the title.
Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson leaned into Harper a lot during the season to provide a spark next to Victor Wembanyama. Wemby’s dynamic versatility and dominance spearheaded the Spurs’ return to this championship stage.
Except now Harper and Wembanyama are back to the drawing board after taking the Game 1 loss. Wembanyama delivered a poor shooting night while Harper mysteriously became mishandled minutes wise by Johnson.
The first rounder from the 2025 NBA Draft settled for only 16 points in 28 minutes. Harper also became two rebounds shy of a double-double. He dished one assist and grabbed one steal. He also watched San Antonio’s 14-point lead in the second half evaporate during the 105-95 loss.
Now the Spurs will aim to redeem themselves in Game 2. Best believe Ron Harper Jr. will be pulling for San Antonio in this one over his childhood team.
