Dream’s Angel Reese sounds off on handling physicality after big game vs. Fever

Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream spoiled the debut of Caitlin Clark’s signature shoe as they defeated the Indiana Fever, 108-101, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Thursday.

The Dream snapped the Fever’s four-game winning streak and improved to 10-4, including 6-2 on the road. Indiana, meanwhile, dropped to 9-6.

Reese had another double-double, tallying 21 points and 11 rebounds. She shot 8-of-14 from the field. She was whistled for four fouls in the first half, but she managed to finish the contest despite the physicality.

After the game, the two-time All-Star touted their poise and ability to stick to their strategy, as reported by Andscape’s Wilton Jackson II.

“We talked about it before the game, about valuing possessions, and also managing emotions, and I think we did a good job of that in fighting through each quarter,” said Reese.

“I think it was just back and forth, back and forth, and we finally got the last punch, and just being able to maintain the composure of all of us, even when the game isn’t going our way, and even when we had great stretches.”

Rhyne Howard scored back-to-back buckets in the last 1:30 to stave off the Fever, who went on a 9-0 run in the first part of the fourth quarter to tie the game, 93-93.

Howard had 16 points, five rebounds, six assists, and two steals, while Jordin Canadad added 18 points, five assists, and four steals.

The Dream went 54% from the field and outscored the Fever in transition points, 17-8.

“Just being able to contain ourselves and just continue to push pace, and I think we did a great job of that tonight,” added Reese, who leads the league in rebounds.

Atlanta and Indiana will have a rematch at Gateway Center Arena on Saturday.
