Donovan Mitchell makes honest admission after defeating Raptors in Game 1

The Cleveland Cavaliers struck first in Game 1 of their opening round playoff series against the Toronto Raptors with Cavs star Donovan Mitchell leading the way with a game-high 32 points. Mitchell and James Harden combined for 54 points as the Cavs set the tone early.

But it wasn’t Donovan Mitchell’s scoring that he was most impressed with during the Cavs’ Game 1 win against the Raptors. Following the win, Mitchell exclaimed that it was actually his steal to end the first half that he thought was his biggest play of the game.

“Just finding ways to win by any means possible. 32 is 32, but I’m happy a got a steal to end the half,” Mitchell said. “I hit blockouts, I’m finding ways to get rebounds, those are the little details that carry over to wins.”

It was a balanced stat line for Mitchell in Game 1 as he also contributed three rebounds, four assists and two steals in 31 minutes. He shot 11-of-20 (55 percent) from the field, 4-of-7 (57.1 percent) from the 3-point line and 6-of-7 (85.7 percent) from the free-throw line.

Mitchell is coming into the playoffs having put up one of the best seasons of his career. He appeared in 70 games at a little over 33 minutes per game. He averaged 27.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.5 steals with splits of 48.3 percent shooting from the field, 36.4 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 86.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

His points per game are the second-highest mark of his career behind 28.3 he averaged in 2022-23 season. His field goal percentage is also the second-highest of his career just behind the 48.4 he shot that same season.
