Dolphins are done with Tyreek Hill and it’s time for NFL’s most polarizing player to reunite with Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill both need to be healed, and a reunion is on the cards.

Mahomes is recovering from a major knee injury and a timetable for his return to the Kansas City Chiefs is still to be determined.

Hill, meanwhile, is done with the Miami Dolphins.

The franchise cited ‘failed physical’ as the reason for Hill’s departure, which comes after four seasons in Florida.

Arguably the NFL‘s most explosive wide receiver on his day, ‘Cheetah’ signed a four-year, $120 million extension with Miami in 2022, and agreed to a restructured deal in 2024 that pushed his guaranteed money to $106.5m — a league record for a skill player.

He didn’t have any guaranteed money coming in 2026, but still carried a $51.1m cap hit this season.

Hill, who went down with a serious knee injury four weeks into the past season, is now out — and it’s time for the Dolphins to rebuild.

But what’s next for one of the NFL’s most polarizing players?

Tyreek Hill urged to return to football home

As news of his release shook up the NFL, Hill updated his Instagram bio to simply read ‘unemployed.’

But he surely won’t spend too long looking for a new team.

Despite questions over his attitude that stemmed from frustrations in Miami, fans are convinced the perennial Pro Bowler needs to return home… to Kansas City.

“It’s time for Tyreek Hill to come back to the Chiefs,” one fan wrote on X Monday.

“One last ride in KC?” another asked.

“TIME TO RUN IT BACK,” a third said, referencing Super Bowl LIV that the Chiefs won in 2020.

“Cheetah back to KC loading,” a fourth predicted.

Even Chiefs tackle Chris Jones has made his feelings clear, telling Hill ‘it’s time’ to come back to Arrowhead with a simple X message.

The Dolphins should’ve cashed in and traded the unpredictable Hill before the 2025 NFL Draft, when they eventually took quarterback Quinn Ewers with a seventh-round pick.

Less than 12 months on, head coach Mike McDaniel has been fired after another disappointing season, and ‘Cheetah’ is a free agent for the first time in his career.

Both Tyreek Hill and Patrick Mahomes had ACL tears

Hill suffered a dislocated left knee in Week 4.

His knee twisted after he planted his leg, and the 10-year pro received an air cast while being transported off the field via a cart.

Hill then cheered, clapped and was picked up by cameras oddly screaming “Yes!”

That injury reaction, combined with a $90 million contract that expires in 2026, has NFL fans increasingly wondering whether the Chiefs could re-acquire a speedy wide receiver they traded away in 2022.

NFL's Greatest......

Ranking the top 10......

Quarterbacks of all-time – Can anyone better Tom Brady?

Wide receivers of all-time – Does Randy Moss or Jerry Rice come out on top?

Running backs of all-time – Stacking Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith and more

Tight ends of all-time – How does Travis Kelce compare?

Hill back in a Chiefs uniform would shake up the league.

Kansas City hasn’t given Mahomes a true top receiver since the fastest player in the NFL was shipped to Miami for multiple draft picks — and the results suffered in 2025.

Chiefs’ offense needs a spark next year

The Chiefs once possessed the highest-powered offense in the NFL.

But this past season, Andy Reid‘s attack ranked 20th in both total yards, and yards per game.

While Hill has issues and can be a lot for a team to deal with, it’s nothing that Big Red hasn’t seen before.

The Dolphins have hit the rebuild button, and as a result, speedster Hill could return to Arrowhead.

Kansas City need an explosive weapon back if they’re going to hang with the NFL’s best teams in 2026.

Signing Hill would also give Mahomes a brilliant reason to speed up his recovery.

Let the Chiefs’ ACL revenge tour begin.
