Dodgers superstar Freddie Freeman gives touching speech after making history against Pirates

The Los Angeles Dodgers celebrated Freddie Freeman on Tuesday night after a milestone that fit neatly inside a team-wide eruption. The veteran first baseman recorded his 2,500th career hit during a 12-3 win vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.

Freeman reached the mark during Los Angeles’ 10-run seventh inning. His RBI single off Brandan Bidois scored Alex Freeland and capped a scoring burst that turned a tight game into another Dodgers rout.

The hit made Freeman the only active MLB player with 2,500 career hits. It also strengthened his place in the Cooperstown conversation and kept the 3,000-hit pursuit within view as his 17th major league season continues.

The Dodgers posted on X, formerly Twitter, after the win, sharing Freeman’s clubhouse message as he shifted attention toward the teammates around him.

“A special speech from the man of the hour, Freddie Freeman. ”

The 2020 NL MVP then explained why the milestone meant more because of the group sharing it with him:

“When you have a group of guys that make it fun to come to the field and grind like we do this June, July, it’s getting hotter, and to come out here against the guy we face tonight, grind him out. Eric pitched the way he did and then we just keep going and score 10 runs. That’s what baseball’s about. That’s what team baseball is about.”

That message captured why Freeman remains such a respected Dodgers voice. Even after making personal history, he focused on Eric Lauer, the lineup’s patience, and the shared grind.

For Los Angeles, Freeman’s speech gave the night its emotional center. The hit was historic, but his words showed why teammates respond to his leadership as the Dodgers continue building toward another October push.
