Dodgers’ start hits mark not seen in almost 50 years
It was frightening to many MLB fans and opposing teams when the Los Angeles Dodgers, after winning back-to-back World Series titles, loaded up even further this offseason — adding Kyle Tucker on a historic four-year, $240 million contract. The rich simply got richer, and the Dodgers’ start to the 2026 season proves that nothing has changed as far as their status as the team to beat in MLB goes.
On Friday night, with the Dodgers beginning a four-game series on the road against division rival Colorado Rockies, LA continued its winning ways, taking a 7-1 win behind an incredible start from Tyler Glasnow. Glasnow pitched 7.0 innings and allowed just one run on two hits, continuing to make it look easy for the Dodgers.
In so doing, the Dodgers have now moved to 15-4 on the season, which marks their best start to a new campaign in nearly 50 years, as per the official MLB account on X (formerly Twitter). Back in 1977, the Dodgers won 17 games before they lost their fourth of the season before finishing with a 98-64 record to win their division.
Of course, the 2026 version of the team would want to do better than the 1977 squad did. While the Dodgers made it to the World Series back in 1977, they ended up losing in six games to the New York Yankees.
Meanwhile, the 2026 squad is locked into their goal of being just the third franchise in MLB history to win the World Series in three consecutive years. The Yankees have accomplished the feat thrice in their history (with two of those being four-peats), and the Athletics pulled this off back in 1972-1974.
The Dodgers’ acquisitions of star players may catch the headlines, but the reason why the team is so good is that they manage to pluck high-level contributors from thin air. To start the 2026 season, Andy Pages has been a revelation, and this is just a continuation of the franchise’s ability to get the best out of unheralded players, like Max Muncy.
