Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani gets ‘GOAT’ declaration from Jimmy Rollins, Pedro Martinez

Is Shohei Ohtani the greatest baseball player of all time? The Los Angeles Dodgers star keeps on making his case in every game that he plays. He’s a unique player in that he’s the only player to play both as a starting pitcher and a regular hitter. The crazy part is that he’s elite at both aspects of the game.

At this point in his career, there’s only one major award that Ohtani hasn’t won yet: a Cy Young award. Jimmy Rollins believes that the Dodgers star is trying his best this season to win it. He also added that when Ohtani eventually wins the award, it will cement his status as the greatest baseball player of all time.

“You can see every time he’s out there, he’s going to prove [he’s going to] win [the] Cy Young,” Rollins said. “And when it happens, Pedro, not if, but when it happens, I think the conversation is over. We get to witness the greatest player of all time.”

Legendary pitcher Pedro Martinez, whom Rollins was talking to, added that he already thinks that Ohtani is the GOAT of the MLB. That’s not an insane sentiment to have: the Dodgers star already has a lot of awards to his name. He’s a four-time MVP, winning it once in the American League with the Los Angeles Angels, then thrice in Los Angeles. Ohtani also has six All-MLB first-team selections, five All-Star selections, and four Silver Slugger awards. To top it all off, he already has two championships ever since he joined the Dodgers, and will be favored to win more in the future.

Ohtani took the mound again for the Dodgers in their game against the Houston Astros, and he was once again stellar. He pitched seven innings, allowing just two runs while striking out eight batters in the process. Unfortunately, Ohtani the batter was not able to make up for the runs he gave up: Los Angeles decided to keep him off the lineup this time around. The Dodgers lost 2-1.
