Dodgers, Padres cap off historic day of losing in NL West

The National League West contains two of the strongest teams in Major League Baseball this season. The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres both play in that division. On Saturday though, the NL West had a rough day to say the least.

All of the division’s teams lost on Saturday, and every single one of them is on a losing streak right now.

“This is the first time in MLB history every team in a division was on a 3+ game losing streak at the end of a given day,” the X account OptaSTATS reported.

While the division has some strong teams including the defending World Series champion Dodgers, it is struggling overall right now.

“NL West is now exactly .500,” New York Post reporter Jon Heyman posted to X, formerly Twitter.

Currently, the San Francisco Giants hold the worst losing streak in the division. San Francisco has dropped their last five games. The Dodgers and Padres each have lost four in a row. The Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies meanwhile have dropped three in a row.

Los Angeles currently leads the division with a 20-13 record. They have a half-game lead on the Padres, who are 19-13. The other three clubs are .500 overall or worse, heading into Sunday.

This is a division that has had a lot of success in MLB in recent years. Los Angeles has won the last two World Series championships, and the Diamondbacks won the NL pennant in 2023.

These five NL West teams will each try and end those losing streaks on Sunday.
