Dodgers’ Mookie Betts stuns Giants with first HR since IL return

The Los Angeles Dodgers watched Mookie Betts reintroduce himself to the MLB world Wednesday. All following Betts’ Oklahoma City run as part of his injury rehab. Pounding a home run against hated rival the San Francisco Giants became icing on the cake for Betts.

The multiple World Series winner blasted a 92 miles per hour four-seam fastball from Robbie Ray during the bottom of the third inning. Plus ripped the ball over the left field wall in front of his home crowd.

The blast rose as a solo shot that handed the Dodgers a 2-0 lead. But brought out smiles, cheers and roars from the dugout all the way to the Chavez Ravine stands. The homer hit an exit velocity of 104.1 while scaling 414 feet into the air in Los Angeles.

Betts’ blast came after Santiago Espinal ripped one over toward left center field for LA’s first score. Espinal’s homer topped at 383 feet while also facing the lefty Ray.

Betts’ blast could potentially erase some early season woes out of the veteran. He, Freddie Freeman and Will Smith rose as struggling Dodgers stars while Andy Pages has broken out.

But it’s not the first time Betts has endured some lapses during a regular season. Betts endured 2025 struggles including being moved around the batting order by manager Dave Roberts. But that came before the World Series charge over the Toronto Blue Jays.

The shortstop is batting only .162 this season through 10 games, smacking only six total hits before the home run. Betts battled an oblique ailment for his MLB Injury.
