Dodgers’ Dave Roberts shares eye-opening reaction to Logan Webb’s Dalton Rushing HBP
The Los Angeles Dodgers avoided a series sweep by earning a 3-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Thursday. During the game, a specific hit-by-pitch led to some controversy.
In the first game of the series on Tuesday, Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing appeared to say an expletive to Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee, which Rushing later denied. Nevertheless, Rushing, who did not play on Wednesday, was hit by a Logan Webb pitch on Thursday. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts commented on the HBP following the game, via Katie Woo of The Athletic.
“It probably was and, for me, (Rushing) said what he said,” Roberts responded when asked if he felt the hit-by-pitch was intentional. “I don’t think he meant it too personally. But they see it. Social media catches it. Webby’s an old school guy and he’s protecting his teammates.”
Rushing was happy to get on base regardless of whether or not it was intentional.
“Whatever they want to call it. I like getting on base. I’ll take it,” Rushing said, via Woo.
In the end, the Dodgers were able to finally earn a win in the series after losing two consecutive games on Tuesday and Wednesday. LA now holds a 17-8 record. The Dodgers and San Diego Padres are tied for first place in the National League West.
The Dodgers will return home this weekend to host the Chicago Cubs. Chicago has been playing well, so the Cubs will give the Dodgers a challenge in Los Angeles.
The first game of the series is scheduled for Friday night at 10:15 PM EST.
