Did Yankees’ Cam Schlittler receive savage heckling from Red Sox fans at Fenway?

The New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox 4-2 on Thursday, securing a three-game series at Fenway Park. Starting pitching was dominant for the Bombers, with Luis Gil and Max Fried combining for 14.1 innings and zero runs. In the final game, Cam Schlittler shoved once again, allowing one earned run in eight innings. He spoke about how the Red Sox faithful treated him after some controversial comments last week.

“There was a couple things but, again, [Social media producer] Cody [Charneski] is out there with the camera, so I think that’ll limit that,” Schlitter said, per the Associated Press. “Not too bad. I think you overestimate how many genuine people are out there compared to online. So it’s a good feeling. I had a lot of buddies out there watching.”

Schlittler burst onto the national scene with an epic eight-inning performance against the Red Sox in the Wild Card Series. A Massachusetts product, Schlittler and his parents received some hateful messages on social media after the game. That led him to tweet about Boston all offseason long, goading more Red Sox hate messages.

Schlittler said he was expecting the worst while he warmed up in the Fenway Park bullpen. But he says that the Boston natives were cordial to him despite their social media messages. Then, Schlittler went out and pitched a strong eight innings for the Yankees to secure the series sweep.

The Yankees have another key road series this weekend against the Houston Astros. Schlittler will be back on the hill against the Texas Rangers in the series after that.
