Dick Advocaat lands new job aged 78 – just weeks after stepping down from World Cup nation
Dick Advocaat has agreed to join former club Feyenoord in an advisory role to Robin van Persie.
The Dutchman was most recently head coach of the Curacao national team, where he oversaw their historic 2026 World Cup qualification.
Curacao will be the smallest nation by population to ever compete at a World Cup, and face Germany, Ivory Coast and Ecuador in Group E.
Advocaat resigned from his role last month to look after his daughter amid her ongoing health issues.
The 78-year-old is now making a return to work at Dutch giants Feyenoord.
He will be an advisor to former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Van Persie, who joined as head coach in February 2025.
It was recently revealed by Cor Pot, who was Advocaat’s assistant at Curacao, revealed that his daughter’s chemotherapy treatment was working.
“I would like to help Feyenoord, and Robin van Persie in particular, to finish this season well,” Advocaat said.
“I have known Robin for almost twenty years, and our bond has always been good.
“When I was manager here, as a former top striker, he wanted to share his knowledge with the attackers we had at Feyenoord.
“And now I can support him in turn. I am happy to do so.”
Ex-Sunderland boss Advocaat was the head coach at Feyenoord, who currently sit second in the Eredivisie, from 2019 to 2021.
Who is in charge at Curacao now?
After Advocaat stepped down, it was announced that Fred Rutten would take over as head coach.
The former Dutch international has previously managed clubs such as PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord and Anderlecht.
Rutten is yet to have managed Curacao on the touchline, but will do so for the first time on March 27 in a friendly against China.
They face Australia four days later, and will also meet Scotland on May 30 in a pre-World Cup friendly.
Curacao make their World Cup debut against Germany on June 14.
Ecuador are their next opponents on June 21 before they play Ivory Coast on June 25.
