Deontay Wilder suggests Derek Chisora should have been disqualified in rant over fight referee

Deontay Wilder believes Derek Chisora could have been disqualified after a member of his team stormed the ring.

Wilder went toe-to-toe with Chisora in a scrappy slugfest at London’s O2 Arena.

The ‘Bronze Bomber’ got the nod on the judges’ scorecards by split decision as the fight went the distance.

But there were several controversial flashpoints during the fight.

In the opening round, a member of team Chisora stormed the ring to try and break up a clinch on the ropes between the pair.

If a member of either camp enters the ring during the action, it is a violation of the rules and it risks disqualification.

And Wilder criticised the referee believing he should have been disqualified.

He said: “It’s supposed to be a disqualification because someone in his team ran up in the ring.

“I mean damn, I’m fighting Derek and the referee, it is crazy.”

His manager Shelly Finkel also quoted the rules and stated his case as to why Chisora shouldn’t have been allowed to continue.

Wilder angry with referee over decisions

It wasn’t the only decision that Wilder wasn’t impressed with.

He also believes the bout should have been stopped in the third round, and suggested Chisora got away with several illegal shots.

“It is crazy, if the ref was fair you are looking at a third round stoppage,” he continued.

“There were so many things went on. I got hit in the back of the head like 10/12 times.

“But when I retaliate he wants to point the finger at me. I’m getting dizzy at times but bouncing back.

“I might not even go to sleep tonight because of the feeling of getting hit in the back of my head.

“The referee allowed so many things to happen that shouldn’t have happened.”

For Wilder now, he will be thankful he got over the line and got his second consecutive victory.

He will now look to move on to bigger and better things, and he’s already made a plea to face Anthony Joshua next.
