Deion Sanders daughter Shelomi Sanders latest in family to graduate from an HBCU

Deion Sanders’ daughter, Shelomi Sanders, is the latest in the Sanders family to graduate from an HBCU. On Friday, Shelomi graduated from Alabama A&M, completing her HBCU journey before concluding her college basketball career at Colorado State University Pueblo, which she announced her transfer to in April.

Shelomi spoke about her graduation in a caption on her social media account, saying, “This chapter shaped me, the degree was always the plan.”

Her mother, Pilar Sanders, also weighed in on social media about her graduation in a separate post to her own Instagram account, saying, “My baby baby @shelomisanders the last of my Cherokees to get their Bachelors (Bachelorette’s) degree!! I’m one VERY PROUD MOTHER MOMMY MOMMA!!!”

Shelomi Sanders entered the college basketball spotlight as a notable recruit from Rockwall-Heath High School, where she earned first-team All-District recognition in Texas’ District 10-6A after posting averages of 16 points, six rebounds, and three steals per game during her senior year. She initially committed to Jackson State Tigers women’s basketball in 2022 while her father, Deion Sanders, led the university’s football program.

Sanders’ collegiate career has since included multiple stops. She appeared in two games during the 2022–23 season at Jackson State before transferring following Deion Sanders’ move to the Colorado Buffaloes football. She later joined the Colorado Buffaloes women’s basketball team, where she saw limited playing time across five appearances.

She eventually returned to the Southwestern Athletic Conference by transferring to Alabama A&M Bulldogs women’s basketball under head coach Dawn Thornton. Over the 2024–25 and 2025–26 seasons, Sanders continued to work to carve out a larger role in the rotation, averaging 1.2 and 1.4 points per game, respectively.

Now, as she heads to her next destination to complete her college journey, she joins her brother Shilo Sanders, who graduated from Jackson State in 2023, and even her father Deion Sanders, who graduated from Talladega College in 2020.
