De’Aaron Fox reveals what Victor Wembanyama said during Game 5 speech as Spurs was getting killed

The San Antonio Spurs are learning about the playoffs in real time as a young team, and they’re learning the hard way in some situations. Game 5 could be considered a hard lesson, as they now trail their series 3-2 against the Oklahoma City Thunder after a 127-114 loss.

In the second half, the Spurs were down double digits, and they needed somebody to pick them up. It was Victor Wembanyama who came in and delivered a speech, and De’Aaron Fox shared with the media what he said.

“We don’t want our season to end this week,” Fox said via ESPN’s Michael C. Wright. “You don’t want to get down, but we got down. You have to be willing to fight back because you lose today, then lose in two days, your season is over. We don’t want that to happen.”

That speech didn’t do anything to change the outcome of the game, but it may have been what they needed going into Game 6 with their season on the line. It’s also important that it came from the leader of the team, and there’s no doubt that Wembanyama will be ready for the challenge.

Mitch Johnson revealed after the game where things went wrong for the Spurs.

“It just felt like it was a little bit of everything,” Johnson said. “We did not put ourselves in position enough to be successful in each possession. So, to beat a team of this caliber in their building with what’s on the stakes, we’ll need to be a lot better to give yourself a chance… There were a lot of things that we were just in wrong positions or wrong coverages or poor decisions, which I’ll go back and look at the film.”

With San Antonio going back home for Game 6, it gives them a good chance to tie the series, but the Thunder know the sense of urgency they need to have in a game like this.
