David Moyes tipped for new job just weeks before Everton season begins
Alan Brazil has backed two potential candidates to become the next Scotland manager.
The national team job is currently vacant following Steve Clarke’s exit this summer.
Clarke resigned as boss following Scotland’s group stage elimination from the World Cup.
Despite signing a new four-year deal ahead of the tournament, the 62-year-old ended his seven-year tenure in June.
A replacement has yet to be named by the Scottish FA, although Roberto Martinez is understood to be in the running for the role.
Brazil has now tipped both Ally McCoist and David Moyes for success if they were to be named Clarke’s successor.
Brazil backing
The former Scotland striker joined Shebahn Aherne and Gabby Agbonlahor on Thursday’s talkSPORT Breakfast show.
McCoist admitted on Wednesday that he would never turn down the chance to manage the national team.
As a player, the former Rangers boss scored 19 goals in 61 caps for Scotland but has been away from the dugout since leaving Ibrox in 2014.
Asked about the prospect of McCoist taking over, Brazil explained: “Ally is mad for Scotland. Rangers is his first team, but when it comes to Scotland, absolutely.
“And Ally, I think he got dealt a bad hand at Rangers, what happened, deductions, relegations and all that.
“Anyone who hears Ally on the telly, the commentaries, his idea of the game, what’s happening and how it should, how it could change in terms of substitutions and stuff, Ally is spot on.
“He’s as good as anyone, if not the best on there, so as far as I’m concerned, why wouldn’t he (be the next Scotland manager), he couldn’t say no.
“If he said no that would be the headlines, it wouldn’t be about his tree in his garden, he’s getting pelters for that.
“If he said no to Scotland it would get even worse, so I’m with him, don’t worry.”
McCoist won two promotions in three years as Rangers manager between 2011 and 2014, with both coming as champions.
Moyes for Scotland
Brazil also addressed the suggestion Moyes could replace Clarke as Scotland manager.
The Everton boss is currently preparing for the new Premier League season after a 13th place finish with the Toffees last term.
His side begin their campaign at home to Crystal Palace on August 22.
Brazil continued: “He’s not been in a job for a while as in coaching, whereas they’re talking about David Moyes.
“David Moyes would do a quality job, make no mistake, but when you think about Scotland, the way we played and the supporters are just magnificent.
“They deserve more and it’s not the players’ fault, it’s just the players. If you look at Switzerland, look at Norway, the youngsters they bring through and how well they do, and then look at Scotland and what we do.
“I’m sorry there’s something drastically wrong with the kids in Scotland not coming through at the highest level.
“Young kids coming through and going to the top Premiership clubs, it doesn’t happen anymore. In the olden days there was always one at each club.
“So whoever started this new revolution about coaching and academies and stuff like that in Scotland, rip it up and start again because it’s not good enough and the fans deserve better.”
Despite beating Haiti in their World Cup opener, Scotland failed to reach the knockout stages in North America.
It means they have now failed to advance from the group stages at all 13 of their major tournament appearances.
This summer’s finals was their first World Cup since 1998 after ending a 28-year wait to qualify.
