David Beckham had difficult call with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney midway through Chelsea match
Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney welcomed football royalty to the Racecourse Ground when Chelsea came to town last week.
And the king of English football himself made a virtual appearance.

Hollywood stars Reynolds and McElhenney spoke about the recent FA Cup defeat to Chelsea during a highly-publicised appearance on Sky Sports last night.
The two actors turned to commentary as Wrexham beat Welsh rivals Swansea 2-0 and strengthened their bid for a Championship play-off place.
It was put to Reynolds and McElhenney that the noise at the Red Dragons’ home ground would make it difficult to hear them – and they responded with an amusing story about David Beckham.
“Yes, we’ll do a lot of FaceTiming during the game,” McElhenney said.
“So in fact, during the Chelsea game, David Beckham was FaceTiming with us, and we’re all trying to talk to each other, but he can’t hear us.”
Reynolds added that it required ‘a lot of big facial expressions and mime work’.
‘Felt like a win’
Wrexham twice went ahead against Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round, but were ultimately beaten 4-2 in extra-time after a red card late in regulation.
Reflecting on the match, Reynolds and McElhenney took a lighthearted dig at Alejandro Garnacho and his ‘frosted tips’ after a tackle on the Chelsea winger led to the dismissal of George Dobson.
But they were also deeply moved by the occasion and what it meant to give a Premier League giant such a competitive game.
Wrexham were a non-league club as recently as 2023 before three successive promotions under their Hollywood owners.

Reynolds said: “That was a big, big moment, I think, for all of us.
“And the fact that we took Chelsea into extra time, it took them extra time, a red card, six subs to take us out, was a feeling I don’t think I can… words are too clumsy to describe that feeling for this community and this town and this stadium.”
He added: “History is written by the victors, but on rare occasions, sometimes the loser walks out of the stadium victorious.
“And I felt like this club, this town, this team, everybody was in that moment together, and they felt like that was a win.
“Just a huge, undeniable win to have a match like that with that level of tension.
“The Chelsea players came here with absolute class. We hung out on the pitch afterwards, and just chatted, and I don’t know, it felt like real humanity in that moment where everybody had a lot of respect for each other, and it was just beautiful.”
