Dave Allen to return to ring five weeks after Filip Hrgovic loss with next fight booked

Dave Allen is wasting no time in stepping back between the ropes in the wake of his lopsided loss to Filip Hrgovic.

‘The White Rhino’ was denied his fairytale homecoming last weekend (May 16) when he was blown away inside three rounds by Hrgovic at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium.

Allen’s trainer, Jamie Moore, made the compassionate decision to throw in the towel while his fighter was under heavy fire against the ropes.

In the immediate aftermath of his defeat, Allen revealed that he intends to fight four more times as he gears up for one last roll of the dice.

The rebuilding process will get underway on June 20 in Rotherham with a four to six-rounder, five weeks removed from his last outing.

“June 20th at Rotherham Magna, I will be back in the ring,” Allen posted on Instagram.

“I physically cannot sit and wait to get back in the ring after last week.

“Full transparency, it will be a journeyman type of opponent, and the rounds will be four or six.

“Ticket prices £50 and £85 ringside, but those who came to the fight at the football ground last week or my fights at Skate Central [a] few years ago, the tickets will be available at half the prices.

“And with a free drink as I will be putting the money behind the bar for them, so message @teamwhiterhino if you wanna come.”

The expectation is that Allen will fight someone of a similar calibre to his last tune-up opponent, Karim Berredjem.

Allen knocked out the 12-11 French journeyman in the opening stanza after falling to a wide points loss to Arslanbek Makhmudov in October of last year.

The British cult hero has come unstuck at both European and world level in recent fights.

However, Allen believes he still has enough gas left in the tank to compete for a British or Commonwealth title.

Allen has never won a domestic belt, and he intends to rectify that before hanging up his gloves.

“Four more fights, I want to get to 40,” Allen told the Queensberry Promotions YouTube channel.

“Eddie is going to take me on a tour of the UK, and then the 40th one will be for the British or Commonwealth title.

“I’d like to win a major domestic title and then call it a day.
