The Utah Jazz gained a rookie with a Kobe Bryant-motivated approach. But channeling “Black Mamba” isn’t the only thing exciting Jazz fans about Darryn Peterson post NBA Draft. His recent “uniform” comments will make him a fan favorite.

Peterson dropped a blunt admission about what his attitude will be when the home and away jerseys are worn.

“When I put on the uniform I’m not putting it on for myself, I’m putting it on for the fans,” Peterson told reporters Saturday.

Peterson won’t wear the late Bryant’s No. 8 or No. 24 when he hits the court. He’ll rock No. 22, his number with Kansas. But Utah reeled him in with the clear intention of re-galvanizing this fanbase.

Peterson’s selection drew praise from more than analysts. One unnamed Eastern Conference executive revealed to NBA insider for ClutchPoints Brett Siegel that he favored the Kansas star over top pick AJ Dybantsa.

“Few guards enter the league with his scoring mentality and killer instincts leading an offense. None of the other guards have the same level of comfortability as an isolation scorer. He will be special in Utah, no doubt. It will be tough to stop him,” the executive told Siegel, even adding he’d take Peterson at No. 1 if their team landed the top pick.

A Western Conference executive additionally told Siegel that Utah “should be thrilled” to land Peterson at the second pick.

“Now he just has extra motivation, and he joins a team we’re projecting to make the playoffs next year,” the anonymous executive told Siegel.

No doubt No. 22 jerseys will grow popular in Salt Lake City and throughout the state of Utah.
