Darren Woodson sheds light on ‘tumultuous’ Deion Sanders-Jerry Jones relationship amid Dallas links
The Dallas Cowboys finished the 2025 regular season with a 7-9-1 record, missing the playoffs for the second-straight season.
Despite this, they are expected to retain head coach Brian Schottenheimer after a forgettable first year in the role.

Super Bowl-seeking owner Jerry Jones axed three members of his coaching staff after putting up one of the worst defenses in 2025.
The Cowboys have not won the Vince Lombardi Trophy since 1995, and Jones’ revolving door of solutions seems to have no end.
Dallas have gone through seven head coaches since winning their last Super Bowl, and despite committing to Schottenheimer, a familiar name has also been in the mix.
Deion Sanders has been linked with the Cowboys job in recent years, and was an integral part in winning the team’s last Super Bowl as a player.
But, owner Jones might be reluctant to ever hand him the role.
Darren Woodson sheds light on why Deion Sanders to the Cowboys may never happen
Deion currently coaches the Colorado Buffalos, and had the pleasure of coaching sons Shilo and Shedeur Sanders in 2024.
Reports in the past have suggested that both Jones and Sanders have mutual interest in re-uniting.
But Cowboys legend Darren Woodson has a different view on the pair potentially joining forces in the future.
“Look, I love Deion, he is one of my best friends,” Woodson exclusively told talkSPORT’s own Will Gavin on Radio Row.
“I just don’t want the tumultuous business that is going to come out of that, right? That relationship between Jerry and Deion, especially.

“They have their own relationship, but I think if you bring in Deion as a coach, now that becomes a real business relationship and that depends on what you want here and there.
“I would love to see Deion as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. I just don’t think that that’s going to happen. I really don’t.”
Sanders signed with Jones and the Cowboys in 1995, and helped ‘America’s Team go on and win Super Bowl XXX.
But he told First Take that seeing how his son Shedeur was treated has put him off coaching in the big league.
“Not whatsoever. What transpired with my son last year? Ain’t no way in the world,” he insisted.
Darren Woodson praises Shedeur Shedeur amidst rough start to NFL career
While Primetime’s NFL career is long over, Shedeur is just getting started and has gotten off to a rocky start.
Sanders was named the Cleveland Browns’ starter for the final seven games of the season, leading them to three wins, 1400 yards and seven touchdowns.
Despite a dramatic slide down the Draft board, a controversial inclusion on the Pro Bowl roster, and no guarantee of a starting role next year, Woodson has praised the 23-year-old for how he has handled all the noise.

“I think he’s like his dad, he’s handled it like a professional,” the Cowboys icon said.
“I thought the entire situation of him sliding in the draft was just mind boggling, and then he had to sit that amount of time and didn’t raise Cain, didn’t say a whole lot, just bid his time.
“And look where he is now. I think that’s just through his professionalism and how he’s handled the situation and his ability to work through those processes.
“He’s a very strong minded kid, a lot like his father, very highly intelligent and very strong minded.
“And I think that there’s a lot to be said about that. I think there’s going to be a lot of growth in his process in the next couple of years because he’s willing, he’s been willing to take it on the chin.
“He’s been willing to have some humility in this situation. Now it’s his time and I think he’s going to really grow as a leader of that football team.”
