Dansby Swanson drops ‘unbelievable’ truth bomb on Nico Hoerner after epic web gem

Lately, things are starting to pick up for the Chicago Cubs. After a slow start to the season, the Cubs are now on a six-game winning streak.

On Monday, they picked up a 5-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies at home in the first game of a three-game series. Part of the reason for that was the efforts of Nico Hoerner at second base.

In the top of the 7th, the Cubs were ahead 5-1. Left-hander Hoby Milner was on the mound, and former Cub turned Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber was at the plate. He hit a hard liner to second base, but Hoerner was there to make the diving stop to end the inning, per Brendan Miller of CHGO Cubs.

This is the most glove side "stretched out" diving stop of Nico Hoerner's career. He's parallel to the ground at the lip of the grass against a scorcher. Incredible.

Afterward, shortstop Dansby Swanson was in awe at Hoerner’s ability to rise to the occasion, per Jordan Bastian of MLB.com.

“The guy’s the best,” Swanson said. “Every day, he kind of just does something — whether it’s defensively, offensively, on the bases — that just makes you say, ‘This guy is unbelievable.’ Once again, tonight.”

Starting pitcher Colin Rea came away with five strikeouts, two walks, and gave up six hits in 6.2 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Hoerner was 1-for-4 at the plate, whereas Swanson was 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning.

As a result, the Cubs are now 13-9 and in second place in the NL Central behind the 15-8 Cincinnati Reds.

In March, Hoerner signed a six-year contract extension. Hoerner is batting .322 with 28 hits, three home runs, and 21 RBIs. Meanwhile, Swanson is batting .192 with 14 hits, five home runs, and 15 RBIs.

The second game of the three-game series is on Tuesday at 6:40 pm CST.
