Cubs’ Pete Crow-Armstrong reveals mindset after hitting the cycle in win over Rockies
The Chicago Cubs have mostly fallen flat on their faces after taking an early lead in the NL Central standings with a torrid start to the 2026 season. But every now and again, the Cubs recapture the magic that made the first few weeks of the season so special. On Monday night, superstar outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong hit for the cycle in a comeback 5-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies at home.
Crow-Armstrong got the scoring started for Chicago with a leadoff solo shot, and he followed that up with a triple to start things off in the bottom of the third. It was disappointing that Crow-Armstrong did not score from that leadoff triple he hit.
With the two most difficult hits of a cycle out of the way, Crow-Armstrong got the job done by hitting a double and a single in back-to-back at-bats in the fifth and seventh inning, respectively. After the game, the Cubs outfielder commented on what was going through his mind with history beckoning.
“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t thinking about it after the triple. The triple was the one I was waiting for [Saturday] in San Fran. So yeah, it absolutely squeaked into my brain. I was seeing the ball well tonight. I didn’t let the thought of that get in the way of having good at-bats,” Crow-Armstrong told the MLB Tonight booth.

Back on Saturday, Crow-Armstrong hit a homer, double, and a single in his first three at-bats in a 6-1 win over the San Francisco Giants. The triple then proved to be elusive as he struck out on back-to-back plate appearances, and he did not get a chance to hit for the sixth time on the night.
On Monday, he got the job done early as far as the cycle went. But it was his teammates who rescued the Cubs from the brink of defeat as they came back in the ninth to win over the Rockies.
Crow-Armstrong’s cycle was the 351st in the history of MLB.
