Cubs can’t catch a break as they lose another pitcher to injured list

The Chicago Cubs cannot catch a break this season when it comes to pitching injuries. The Cubs’ rotation has been decimated by the injury bug. On Saturday, the team received another unfortunate update, as left-handed pitcher Hoby Milner is dealing with appendicitis. The Cubs placed Milner on the 15-day injured list while also adding Bryse Wilson to the 26-man roster, optioning Jayden Murray to Triple-A and recalling Tyler Ferguson.

Milner, 35, has been an impactful arm for Chicago this season. Through 38 games out of the bullpen, the southpaw has recorded a respectable 3.53 ERA in his 35.2 innings of work. While the starting rotation has been hit especially hard by injuries, the bullpen has also had a number of pitchers miss time.

The Cubs will look to find a way to replace Milner’s production during his absence due to appendicitis. Updates on Hoby Milner will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available.

The Cubs will likely look to acquire a pitcher or two before the trade deadline. Adding depth to the rotation and bullpen would certainly be a good move.

On Saturday, the Cubs are set to battle the Milwaukee Brewers once again on the road after losing to them 6-2 on Friday. Chicago is in second place in the National League Central standings, but the ball club trails Milwaukee by 7.5 games at the moment. Nevertheless, the 44-38 Cubs could still make a run for the division.

First pitch for the ball game on Saturday night between the NL Central rivals is scheduled for 7:10 PM EST.
