Crysencio Summerville told which Premier League club will help him explode – and it’s not Man United

Aston Villa could be the club Crysencio Summerville needs to take his game to the next level after starring at the World Cup.

That is the opinion of European football expert Andy Brassell, who believes the winger will be a big Premier League player next season.

The Dutchman has been attracting interest from multiple Premier League sides following West Ham’s relegation last term.

Summerville managed just one goal and one assist in an injury-hit debut campaign for the Hammers following his arrival from Leeds.

However, the 24-year-old rediscovered his best form last season, with five goals and two assists during his 31 Premier League appearances.

His form wasn’t enough to save West Ham from the drop, but Summerville enhanced his emerging reputation at the World Cup.

He registered four goal contributions in as many games for the Netherlands during their round-of-32 defeat on penalties to Morocco.

Prior to the tournament, Brassell told talkSPORT.com that Summerville could have been a weapon for West Ham in the Championship next term – if not for his strong finish to the season.

The attacker was Leeds’ top scorer with 21 goals and 10 assists during their run to the Championship playoff final in the 2023/24 season.

Crysencio Summerville is in an unusual situation,” Brassell explained. “If he’d have gone back six months, say to mid-January, when West Ham were already staring down the barrel of relegation to the Championship, you would have bet on Summerville staying there for their return to the EFL and maybe being one of the players who helped them come back up, helping to not just improve his confidence and his consistency.

“Of course he got that 20-goal season for Leeds when he was last in the Championship, but inflating his value in terms of the transfer market.

“But then the last couple of months happened as West Ham narrowly missed out on staying up, Summerville was excellent.

“He was the player who, in flashes, had shown in his first season in the Premier League with Leeds what a player he could be in terms of his pace, in terms of his dribbling and in terms of his goals.

“He scored a lot of important goals for West Ham in the second half of the season, even if in the end it wasn’t enough.

“Now he’s carried that on and then some to the World Cup, and it felt to me as if he was the key piece of the Netherlands front three.

“Even if you look at the fact that Cody Gakpo was excellent in parts and got some goals, ditto for Brian Brobbey of Sunderland who’d come off a very good season in the North East.

“Summerville was the player that gave them that extra little bit of variety. Even in the game that they played against Sweden and won handsomely, of course, 5-1 in the middle game in the groups.

Ronald Koeman was at pains to say afterwards that Summerville hadn’t been fit to start and that’s the only reason that he hadn’t played in that game.

Summerville ‘not just a dribbler’

“It all started going wrong against Japan when he substituted Summerville in the first game,” Brassell continued.

“Even so, the West Ham winger managed to come on in the second half and had a huge involvement in Gakpo’s goal that really sealed the game at the start of the second half with a brilliant backheel.

“That really underlines the sort of variation that Summerville had. The fact that he’s not just a dribbler, he’s not just an assister, he’s not just a scorer, he’s all of these things.

“He links the play really well as well, besides covering a lot of ground, which is an often overlooked part of his game.

“So maybe there are no clubs out there at the absolute top rank of the Premier League ready to go and splash out on him and spend an absolute fortune on him.”

Crysencio Summerville transfer latest

talkSPORT understands that Manchester United have opened exploratory talks with West Ham over signing Summerville.

Tottenham launched a surprise enquiry over the six-cap international in January, with Fulham among his other summer suitors.

Brassell added: “We already know Fulham have been in negotiations with him but I do just wonder, and I think he’d be excellent for them by the way, of course they’ve already got the wide option of Kevin who I think will be even better in his second season in the Premier League, but you just wonder if Fulham could have that little bit of competition because Summerville has proved that that ability at 24 is ready to explode and go on to the next level.

“Now you just wonder if the right players are around him, the right stage on which to compete, he could really get there.

“I wonder if he could be a potential Aston Villa player going into next season.”

Summerville to Aston Villa?

“Now of course we know that their hands are tied a little bit with PSR and they can’t go out splashing out infinite amounts to improve their squad.

“But of course they could always generate some by selling, but I just wonder if in terms of their price level Summerville is about there.

“We know they’re not going to retain Jadon Sancho going into next season, and whether Emi Buendia can keep up the sort of efforts we’ve seen from him last season. Of course, he was very good in the Europa League final as well. We’ll have to wait and see.

“I tend to see him as more of an inside player than an outside player, which Summerville is even though he can come into those central areas as well. So I wonder if that could be a good get for them.

“But there are a number of teams in the Premier League who would really benefit from Summerville, and I think with the right situation around him he’s ready to go and become the player that a lot of people believed he could be when he came into the Premier League with Leeds in first place.

“Now I don’t think going back six months ago anyone would have predicted this.

“I don’t think going back two months ago you would have predicted that he’d be one of the better players of the World Cup group stage.

“But this, I think, is just him coming to fruition at absolutely the right time.

“When he’s ready to make a move, he’s just started showing the world exactly how good he is.

“I think with the right surroundings he’s going to be a big, big player in the Premier League next season.”
