Constitution Hill Melbourne Cup odds – Champion Hurdler big contender down under

Ahead of his second flat run at Kempton on Wednesday evening, Constitution Hill is already priced up as one of the leading contenders to win the Melbourne Cup in Australia.

On talkSPORT BET, the 2023 Champion Hurdle winner is 16/1 in the ante post market to land the prestigious race down under, with only one horse ahead of him in the odds.

Bookies aren’t taking any chances on the Grade 1 hurdle winner converting his talents to the flat after routing his rivals in his flat debut at Southwell last month.

The 2026 Lexus Melbourne Cup will be held on Tuesday, 3 November at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne as the feature race of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

The race has garnered lots of attention over the years especially with big names from the UK and Ireland looking to take the race on.

Absurde, trained by Willie Mullins, is also a hurdler who takes on the flat, but actually started out on the flat compared to Constitution Hill.

The now eight-year-old has travelled to Australia three times to take on their biggest race, even going in as one of the favourites in 2023.

The Irish-trained horse has yet to take the crown but went within two lengths of the winner in 2024’s renewal.

There are a few Irish and UK-trained horses in the ante post early doors for the Melbourne Cup including a couple of Mullins-trained shots, including The Euphrates and Stay True.

Constitution Hill trained by Nicky Henderson is renowned for his exceptional cruising speed in which he so rarely needed to be off the bridle when winning the biggest races over hurdles.

If he wins on Wednesday, even though he’s priced as short as 2/11 with talkSPORT BET, he could be shortened even further for the race that has been mentioned by owner Michael Buckley as a target.

Where next for Constitution Hill?

Ryan Moore is set to ride Constitution Hill for his second flat run at Kempton on Wednesday, 25 March at 7.30pm.

And the jockey is set to be of great help for trainer and connections, as Henderson believes he will be able to tell them where he belongs in the scope of flat racing.

Henderson told Racing Post: “These guys know what it takes to win certain races, distances and what sort of races we ought to be looking at in the future.”

Seven Barrows will be busy mapping out a campaign out for Constitution Hill after the race on Wednesday, and has often referenced the John Porter at Newbury.

An ideal race, for the stable located in Lambourn also in Berkshire.

But Henderson did confirm: “There’s nothing for him at Royal Ascot and I’d like him to have a month out like he normally would and then you can concentrate on the autumn. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves – let’s see what happens this week first.”
