Conor Benn offered fight by former world champion turned bare-knuckle boxer in furious outburst

Paulie Malignaggi has slammed Conor Benn’s boxing ability and suggested he wants to fight the Briton.

Benn was in action as he took on Regis Prograis in his latest bow, and laboured to a points victory.

It wasn’t ‘The Destroyer’s’ best performance and he faced some criticism from the boxing community.

But nonetheless he has earned a world title shot at 147lbs where he will likely take on Ryan Garcia in August.

American former world champion Malignaggi was far from impressed.

The now bare-knuckle boxer has criticised Benn and believes he’d beat the Briton at the age of 45.

He told talkSPORT: “I would beat him right now.

“Watch my fight next month. Conor Benn is invited too if he wants a piece afterward. I’ll beat him right now.”

Malignaggi isn’t in his physical prime but has teased a return to the professional boxing ranks.

He has even called out the victor of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao’s planned blockbuster rematch in September.

First, the veteran will go for BKB title glory as he takes on Rolando Dy for the super-welterweight strap on May 18 live on the talkSPORT Boxing YouTube channel.

Malignaggi on Benn

Despite Malignaggi’s doubts on Benn’s boxing ability, he is going to get a shot at world gold.

He is hoping to follow in the footsteps of his father Nigel by capturing the WBC title.

Garcia will be a favourite in their potential fight given his experience at the top level, with Benn currently an unknown entity in world title fights.

But Malignaggi believes although he deserves to be challenging, that Benn will never win a title.

“He’s an okay fighter,” Malignaggi continued.

“But don’t start matching him with these world class fighters. Like Shakur Stevenson.

“Don’t start matching him boxing wise with these world class guys, I get it for fanfare.

“He’s never going to win a world title fight. He’s not terrible but he’s not at championship level.

“Ryan Garcia beats him and maybe stops him.”
