Conor Benn leaks text message he sent Eddie Hearn after stunning split

Conor Benn has revealed he did send Eddie Hearn a text message after his shock switch to Zuffa Boxing.

Benn left the boxing world in a chaotic frenzy after it was confirmed he had ditched long-term promoter Eddie Hearn.

‘The Destroyer’ announced that he had signed a huge $15 million deal with rising promotion Zuffa Boxing, spearheaded by UFC kingpin Dana White.

It was a remarkable move, which came as a real surprise given how Hearn stuck with Benn during his career.

Hearn revealed he wasn’t too impressed with the lack of contact from Benn, suggesting he was only informed by his long-term charge’s lawyers.

And Benn, who spoke about his relationship with Hearn, insisted he has now reached out to the Matchroom Boxing chief.

He told Boxing King Media: “I think things were very heated with the teams, and knowing how I am as an individual, would the call have been beneficial?

“Once the dust had settled, and it had calmed down, I messaged Eddie saying, ‘I love you mate, and you know, this isn’t the end of the road, you know, the journey does continue’.

“When things get heated, I’ve said things in the moment, from previous experiences where, you know, you regret saying them.

“Why speak in the midst of hurt, ego, pride, anger? Nothing good comes from it. I think we both could’ve dealt with it better privately.”

Clearly Benn still sees Hearn as a pivotal part of his future moving forward.

It is believed his deal with White is just for one fight, and his long-term future he may still see in Essex.

But it is unclear if Hearn will want to work with the leading ranked welterweight again.

Conor Benn’s departure – the talkSPORT reaction

Benn’s departure now sees him try to crack the US market, with a potential huge fight on the horizon.

He could find himself up against the likes of Shakur Stevenson or Ryan Garcia, with the latter whom he is mandatory to face for his WBC belt.

But despite the prospect of a new horizon, talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan believes he could regret the move.

He said: “I think personally that Conor Benn would be better off with Eddie Hearn, better off with Matchroom as they are a world-class promotional operation.

“As Frank [Smith] mentioned earlier, Zuffa are trying to regulate the flow [of money] because the one thing that has happened at the UFC is they have been sued left, right and centre.

“And by the way, Matchroom are far bigger than Conor Benn.

“They have had a nice little divvy; they have made a nice little bit of money out of Conor Benn.”
