Colts one of 3 biggest winners from Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft
The 2026 NFL Draft maintained the same level of excitement into Day 2 that was established in the first round. The second round opened up with a surprising selection, setting the stage for another thrilling night of activity. Every NFL team got involved too, as all of the franchises left out from the first round finally added their first rookies.
There is still a lot of action still to happen on Day 3. However, some teams are beginning to emerge as clear winners and losers of this year’s draft now after three full rounds.
But which teams put together the best performances on Friday night?
Three teams jump out as the biggest winners from Day 2 of the draft.
Colts land two defensive players on massive discounts
Picks: LB CJ Allen (53rd overall), S A.J. Haulcy (78th overall)
The Colts were one of the eight NFL teams who did not make a pick in the first round. But they made up for it by scooping up two defensive players at bargain prices.
Indianapolis started strong by trading down with Pittsburgh, gaining an additional fourth-round pick (135th overall) in the process. That gives Indy more options in the middle rounds. It looks even better because Allen fell into their lap at 53rd overall.
Indy entered the draft with Akeem Davis-Gaither and precious little else at linebacker. Allen projects as the team’s new middle linebacker of the future and should start right away in Week 1.
Meanwhile, the Colts added more depth in the secondary with Haulcy. He is a great value in the third round and should compete for a starting spot opposite Cam Bynum.
Adding two potential starters and gaining an extra pick is a great Day 2 draft haul.
Steelers crush Day 2 with four excellent value picks
Picks: WR Germie Bernard (47th overall), QB Drew Allar (76th overall), CB Daylen Everette (85th overall), T Gennings Dunker (96th overall)
Pittsburgh certainly made their fans happy at Day 2 of the draft. The Steelers made four total selections and each of them looks great on paper.
Bernard projects as the new WR3 of the future in Pittsburgh behind DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. The Steelers finally feel deep at their offensive skill positions for the first time in several seasons.
Pittsburgh also added excellent depth pieces in Everette and Dunker. Both players significantly raise the floor for the Steelers and could even compete for starting jobs in training camp. Dunker should slide inside and play guard, so he’ll compete with Spencer Anderson at left guard.
But Allar is the most exciting pick. Quarterback was a big need since it is unclear if Aaron Rodgers will return to the Steelers in 2026. Allar should be popular with Penn State fans and gives the Steelers another option behind Mason Rudolph and Will Howard at QB.
The Steelers deserve credit for getting great value at each pick and adding players with high upside.
Browns double down on playmakers on Day 2
Picks: WR Denzel Boston (39th overall), S Emmanuel McNeil-Warren (58th overall), T Austin Barber (86th overall)
Cleveland continued adding to their young nucleus of talent on Day 2 of the draft.
The Browns doubled down at wide receiver, drafting Boston after adding KC Concepcion in the first round. Now the Browns suddenly have a deep receiver room with Concepcion and Boston pushing for starting snaps alongside Jerry Jeudy, Cedric Tillman, and Isaiah Bond. Cleveland is smart to build infrastructure around their next franchise quarterback, who should join the team early in the 2027 draft.
McNeil-Warren was a popular prospect during the pre-draft process. The media was high on him, which made it surprising that he fell outside of the top 50 selections. Cleveland got excellent value picking McNeil-Warren where they did. He gives the Browns the flexibility to deploy three-safety looks with himself, Grant Delpit, and Ronnie Hickman right away.
The Barber pick feels a bit like overkill after adding Spencer Fano at ninth overall. But it will ensure that there’s competition at every position during training camp this summer.
