Cody Bellinger’s All-Star MVP puts him in elite Yankees company

Cody Bellinger broke out of an extended funk last week, regaining his top form and doing everything possible to help the New York Yankees end the first half of their 2026 campaign on an optimistic note. He carried that momentum into Tuesday night’s MLB All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Park. The difference-making left fielder smacked a two-run single in a crucial at-bat versus home-town favorite Cristopher Sanchez in the top of the first inning. That was all it took for him to earn MVP honors.

Bellinger joins Derek Jeter (2000), Mariano Rivera (2013) and Giancarlo Stanton (2022) as the only four Yankees players to receive the award, per the New York Yankees Stats X account. The first two individuals are beloved Hall of Famers who were integral members of five World Series championship teams, and the third is one of the best sluggers of his era. Not bad company to keep.
