Clippers’ Tyronn Lue was real ‘pissed off’ after choking away season vs. Warriors
Los Angeles Clippers coach Tyronn Lue watched in horror as they slowly combusted in the fourth quarter against the Golden State Warriors in the Play-In Tournament at Intuit Dome on Wednesday.
What was once a 13-point lead turned into total despair as they choked away their season, 126-121.
The Clippers had no answer for the fiery rally of the Warriors led by Stephen Curry, who gave his team the lead, 120-117, with his three-pointer with only 50 seconds left. Al Horford was also instrumental, hitting four three-pointers in the final quarter.
Lue made his true feelings known after their loss, as shared by Clippers reporter Joey Linn.
“Pissed off. We had the game in our hands,” said Lue.
Los Angeles could not find anyone to take charge in the fourth period, as Kawhi Leonard struggled against the defense of Draymond Green. Leonard, who gave high praise to Green, was limited to just two points in the final quarter.
The two-time Finals MVP, who had a fantastic season, finished with 21 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and five turnovers.
The Clippers missed the playoffs after three consecutive appearances.
In their four stints in the playoffs under Lue, they were eliminated in the first round three times.
For what it’s worth, Los Angeles still made it to the Play-In Tournament despite having a nightmarish start to the season, including a 6-21 record.
Lue and the Clippers had to trudge through numerous issues, including the surprise release of Chris Paul, the alleged circumvention of the salary cap involving Leonard and team owner Steve Ballmer, and the trade of James Harden, among others.
