Clippers’ Derrick Jones Jr. limps to locker room vs. Warriors in NBA Play-In

The Los Angeles Clippers have been battling injuries all season long. With their season on the line now, they have unfortunately suffered another injury scare. Forward Derrick Jones Jr has been one of their best defenders this year. Unfortunately, Jones came up limping in their Play-In Game against the Golden State Warriors after rolling his ankle.

Jones was able to stay in the game despite the injury, though he exited the game two minutes before halftime, per Tomer Azarly, presumably to get his ankle checked. He was back on the floor for the second half, though, even taking a brutal hit from Draymond Green while trying to get over the latter’s screen.

Jones has carved a role in the NBA as one of the better perimeter defenders in the league. Once known solely for his elite jumping ability, the Clippers forward is now utilizing his length and explosiveness to bother players at the perimeter. He’s started in most of the games he’s played this season, coming off the bench just five times out of 50 this season. He’s averaging 10.1 points per game on 49.9% shooting from the field, adding 3.5 rebounds, a block, and 0.9 steals per contest.

At the time of writing, the Clippers still hold a slim lead over the Warriors in the fourth quarter. Los Angeles has been steadily holding off the Golden State attack this game, trying desperately to keep their season alive. A win here will set the Clippers up for a win-or-go-home game against the Phoenix Suns for the final seed in the Western Conference Playoffs.
