Clippers’ Chris Paul takes apparent shot at LA after wild play-in collapse

Well, that was a brutal collapse for the Los Angeles Clippers. They were leading for the entirety of their Play-In Tournament game against the Golden State Warriors. Even with Stephen Curry heating up in the second half, it seemed like Los Angeles was going a good enough job keeping their rivals at bay. The Clippers were about to book their ticket to the next phase of the Play-In Tournament.

And then, disaster struck. The Clippers blinked first, and the Warriors used that split second to break through. A 43-32 score in the final frame was enough for Golden State to wrestle control away from Los Angeles. That collapse in the fourth quarter doomed LA, as they lost 126-121 and were eliminated from the playoffs.

There’s one former player who’s relishing in the Clippers’ heartbreaking loss. Minutes after the Los Angeles’ loss, NBA legend Chris Paul posted an image to his stories. The image is an internet reference, with the original caption to that photo saying, “Stopped by one of my biggest hater’s funeral today.”

The animosity between Paul and the Clippers stemmed from their messy breakup this past season. Paul returned to LA in the offseason for one more run with his former team. However, the point guard was sent home in the middle of the season due to reported disagreements between him and his teammates. Paul was traded to the Toronto Raptors before the deadline and was released after. He would officially announce his retirement following his release.

The Clippers are now eliminated from playoff contention after this loss to the Warriors. Bennedict Mathurin led the Clippers with 23 points, while Kawhi Leonard and Darius Garland had 21 points apiece. Once one of the hottest teams in the league, LA is now left with more questions about the future of this core.
