CIAA Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams Parker inks lucrative extension

CIAA Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams Parker will remain at the helm of the nation’s oldest historically Black athletic conference after receiving a contract extension through 2031. The CIAA Board of Directors unanimously approved the extension during its 2026 Spring Board Meeting at Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, reaffirming its confidence in McWilliams Parker’s leadership following its annual performance review.

“I am grateful to the Board of Directors for their continued confidence and support of our vision for the CIAA,” McWilliams Parker said. “This conference has a rich legacy built by generations of leaders, member institutions, student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. Together, we have made tremendous progress in strengthening the CIAA’s brand, enhancing the student-athlete experience, deepening sponsor and partner engagement, and elevating the overall fan experience.

She added, “I am excited about what lies ahead as we continue to elevate our conference and build upon the foundation that makes the CIAA one of the most respected conferences in intercollegiate athletics.”

In addition to extending McWilliams Parker’s contract, the Board approved several initiatives to shape the conference’s future. Among the most notable was the approval of an expanded CIAA Football Championship format beginning with the 2026 season. Specific details of the new playoff structure will be unveiled during CIAA Football Media Day on July 15 in Durham, North Carolina.

The Board also reaffirmed its commitment to the conference’s current sponsored sports while continuing preparations for women’s flag football to officially launch as a varsity sport during the 2026-27 academic year. Looking ahead, conference officials will continue studying the feasibility of expanding women’s soccer through associate membership partnerships and exploring championship opportunities in sports the CIAA does not currently sponsor, including baseball and men’s and women’s soccer. A report on those efforts will be presented to the Board in Fall 2026.
