Chris Rose hilariously asks ex-Cubs star Kyle Schwarber to apologize for beating Guardians in 2016 World Series

Kyle Schwarber is now one of the most productive members of the Philadelphia Phillies. This year, Schwarber has hit marks only hit by Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire. Before becoming a star for the Phillies, Schwarber was a member of the Chicago Cubs. He broke into the majors with the Cubs in 2015 and was part of the 2016 team that won the World Series over the Cleveland Guardians, then known as the Cleveland Indians.

Now, Schwarber is speaking about the 2016 World Series, talking with Chris Rose of Jomboy Media. Rose, who is from Cleveland, Ohio, has a pointed question for Schwarber.

“I was upset in 2016 when you ruined it for my hometown. Do you want to apologize? I’ll give you one last time,” Rose said to Schwarber.

“No, never going to,” Schwarber responded. “Can’t apologize for a ring, and arguably, probably one of the best World Series to have been played. The more that you think about that series, where you sit back as a fan, you look at it to where the two longest teams that have gone without a championship in Major League Baseball. Sorry to bring it back up for you. 3-1. Then we go all the way to seven games. Epic rain delay. An epic home run and obviously an epic rally for us.”

It was a legendary World Series. The Cubs had not won a World Series since 1908, but broke the curse that year. Meanwhile, the Guardians had not won a World Series since 1948.

Schwarber had played just two games in the regular season that year. He tore his ACL in April and missed the rest of the year, but he was added to the World Series roster that year as the designated hitter. Schwabrer then hit a double in Game 1, becoming the first position player to ever record his first hit of the season in the World Series. He would go on to hit .412 in the series, with a double and two RBIs, helping the Cubs win the series.

Since then, neither team has been back to the World Series. Schwarber has been able to play in a World Series since then, playing in the 2022 World Series with the Phillies, but the team lost in six games to the Houston Astros.

The Guardians are hopeful they can make a run back to the World Series this year. Cleveland is 36-27 on the year, which is good for first in the AL Central. They look for the three-game sweep of the New York Yankees on Thursday afternoon.
