Chris DeMarco knows Steve Kerr will make right decision on Warriors coaching future
Steve Kerr enters the offseason in the unfamiliar position of not having a team to coach after the Golden State Warriors’ season ended in the play-in tournament. Kerr doesn’t have an extension in place to continue coaching Golden State next season, and his quick embrace with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green as the final seconds ticked down in the Warriors’ season had plenty of people speculating.
One coach who knows Kerr well is his longtime assistant, Chris DeMarco. DeMarco left the Warriors staff this season to take the head coach job with the New York Liberty in the WNBA. However, the media took the time to ask him about Kerr’s future on Tuesday, according to Khristina via X, formerly Twitter.
“Steve’s incredible. I was raised in the right culture because of what he’s done…I spent a decade with them, and that’s family,” DeMarco said. “That’s a decision he’s gonna sit with his family and come to himself.”
It seems like everyone is giving their opinion on Kerr, as even Green predicted that his head coach will retire before next season. While Kerr is still one of the league’s top coaches, it’s hard to argue that he has already done everything he can in the league.
Kerr has nine championships after his playing career as a role player with the Chicago Bulls and his leadership of the Warriors, winning five with Michael Jordan and the Bulls and four as a head coach. If Steve Kerr thinks it’s time to ride off into the sunset, he has certainly earned the right to do it.
