Chiefs linked with $82m Patrick Mahomes weapon and former Super Bowl rival amid Raiders speculation

The Las Vegas Raiders still have one overriding question looming over their heads.

Las Vegas are hoping that 2026 is the beginning of a new era, after selecting an emotional Fernando Mendoza first overall in the NFL Draft.

It was the leagues worst kept secret, and Vegas spent heavily in the offseason preparing for his arrival.

However, there is one crucial position that some believe they haven’t invested enough in, and that’s in the wide receiver room.

The Geno Smith experiment failed in 2025, and the Raiders receivers struggled to add much else, with Tre Tucker leading the pack with 696 receiving yards.

The Raiders have added former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jalen Nailor in free agency, who has high hopes for Mendoza.

Chiefs linked for dramatic swoop of Deebo Samuel

There is a feeling they have a missing piece, and former Washington Commanders and San Francisco 49ers wideout Deebo Samuel has been linked with the team.

Samuel was in San Francisco when now Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak was the team’s passing game coordinator.

Samuel would be familiar with Kubiak’s system, however, FanSided’s Wynston Wilcox believes the Kansas City Chiefs should be all over Deebo.

“This feels like too obvious of a move for Kansas City to pass up on,” Wilcox wrote.

“I say this because they need receiver help badly and with Samuel’s ability to create both out of the backfield and as a receiver, it could be what gives this offense life.

“Patrick Mahomes had to do a lot last season and it ultimately led to him getting knocked out with an injury.

“They already beefed up their running back room with Kenneth Walker III and now adding Samuel would mean Mahomes has real receiver help.”

Suddenly, the Chiefs wide receiver room is thin, and has caused a panic amongst fans this offseason.

Rashee Rice was sentenced to serve 30 days in jail after testing positive for marijuana, violating the terms of his probation for his role in a car crash that left multiple people injured in 2024.

But, even if he had been able to attend practice, the 26-year-old probably wouldn’t have done much work anyway.

One week before being ordered to serve 30 days in jail, Rice underwent a ‘cleanup surgery’ on his right knee.

Record-setting Xavier Worthy didn’t take that next step in 2025 after an encouraging rookie campaign with Kansas City.

With Patrick Mahomes looking like he will be available for the season opener, he will want to hit the ground running immediately.

Kansas City will look to bounce back from their 6-11 record in 2025, their worst in the Mahomes’ era, and maybe Samuel is the answer.
