Chiefs-Bills on Thanksgiving sets stage for historic QB matchup

The 2026 NFL schedule is officially out in full, and there are plenty of blockbuster matchups to look forward to. On the AFC side, many fans were looking forward to seeing when the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills would renew their rivalry.

This season, it will be on Thanksgiving Night in prime time. The Bills and Chiefs will square off in Buffalo in Week 12 with the NFL world watching, and there will likely be massive AFC playoff implications on the line.

The story whenever these two teams face off is the quarterbacks. Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen have become arguably the two biggest stars in the NFL and have each made a ton of history individually. If both are on the field on Thanksgiving, they will make a little bit of history together.

If Mahomes and Allen both start in Week 12, it will mark the first time ever that two former MVP starting quarterbacks have squared off on Thanksgiving Day, according to ESPN Insights.

The Chiefs and Bills have staged a number of classic games with Mahomes and Allen at the helm, especially in the postseason. The 2022 Divisional Round, known as the “13 seconds” game, is widely thought of as one of the best playoff games this decade, and the Chiefs won in overtime after a miraculous regulation comeback. Kansas City also got the better of the Bills in a pair of AFC Championship Games in Kansas City and another epic Divisional Round clash in Buffalo.

In the regular season, the Bills have often gotten the better of the Chiefs in this rivalry. Buffalo has won the last five regular season meetings against Kansas City, including Allen’s iconic touchdown scramble in 2024 and a more comfortable Buffalo victory in 2025.

The Bills will be hoping to keep that regular season trend going on Thanksgiving, but they know that’s not enough. After another playoff failure last season against the Denver Broncos, while the Chiefs watched at home, the question will continue to remain: Can Buffalo get over the hump against Kansas City when it matters most?
