Chelsea v Pafos betting offer: Bet £10 and get £40 in free bets with BetVictor

Chelsea are back in Champions League action on Wednesday night as they welcome Cypriot side Pafos to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea head into their penultimate Champions League game of the league phase on Wednesday night looking to build on their 2-0 victory in the west London derby over Brentford on Saturday that got the side back to winning ways after a midweek defeat to Arsenal.

Saturday’s win was Liam Rosenior’s first match managing in the Premier League, and made it two wins from his three matches since making the move to Stamford Bridge from Strasbourg a couple of weeks ago, and Wednesday will be his first time managing in the Champions League.

The Blues, currently sat sixth in the Premier League, just two points off the top four, and there is also work to be done with the Champions League, with it looking like they’ll need to win each of their last two matches to secure the all important top eight finish.

The west London side head start this week’s midweek action in 13th place in the league phase standings, currently two points behind Atletico Madrid in the final top eight place, which will secure a direct place in the last 16.

Last season, 16 points was needed to secure a top eight finish, and with Chelsea currently on 10 points from six matches, victories on Wednesday at home against Pafos followed by away from home against Italian champions Napoli next week are a must.

Pafos are enjoying their first ever season in the main Champions League draw, progressing through three rounds of qualifying and defeating the likes of Red Star Belgrade and Dynamo Kyiv to reach the league phase.

The Cypriot side, managed by Champions League winning midfielder Albert Celades, who played for both Barcelona and Real Madrid, still very much have a chance at reaching the knockout phase play-offs, currently just a point outside the top 24.

Pafos have secured a notable victory over Villarreal in this season’s Champions League, and have held the likes of Monaco and Olympiacos to draws.

The reigning champions of Cyprus make the trip to London for their first ever competitive meeting against English opposition having lost three of their last six matches following a league defeat on Saturday evening which has left them four points adrift of league leaders Omonia Nicosia, albeit having played a game fewer.

The two teams and the two managers have never faced each other before Wednesday’s clash, but Celades has twice managed against Chelsea before leading his Valencia side to victory at Stamford Bridge in the 2019-20 Champions League group stage before holding Frank Lampard’s side to a 2-2 draw at the Mestalla a couple of months later.
