Charlie McAvoy’s ‘not acceptable’ truth bomb after Sabres series loss

The Boston Bruins were eliminated by the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night. Some Bruins were dealing with significant pain, and it was a hard-fought matchup throughout. However, Charlie McAvoy and his team are heading home and preparing for the long offseason ahead.

One sticking point throughout the series was Boston’s inability to win at home. The Bruins had a .707 win percentage at TD Garden during the regular season. But in the postseason, they lost all three games at home. And they were outscored 13-3 in those games. McAvoy certainly wasn’t pleased with his team’s effort at home after Game 6.

“It’s just not acceptable. I don’t know exactly what it is. We can talk a big game about how excited we are. … We were awesome at home this year, but we didn’t do when it mattered the most,” the Bruins defenseman said, via Boston.com reporter Conor Ryan.

The Bruins have also struggled in past postseason games at home. In 2024, they went 2-5 in front of their home fans in the playoffs. They lost to the Florida Panthers that year in the second round. In the Panthers series, Boston failed to win a single home game.

On the road, Boston showed some fight. Both of their wins came away from home. And they may have had a third win on the road had they held on in Game 1. However, they blew a 2-0 lead in the third period, losing Game 1 in crushing fashion.

Boston has a chance to build on this performance. The lack of wins at home are going to be a sore spot throughout the offseason, though. And they will need to find a way to flip the script if they make the postseason again in 2027.
